a'driane nieves, and yet in spite of this intergenerational grief and destruction, as an eldest daughter i’ve waged holy for a reclamation of our softness, consuming both the dark and the light, to remove the buildup of salt in wounds that have calcified so many of us into stone/and as this tenderness softens what's been hardened within, i sing a lament for my own ruins, my insides and my outsides, these rotting pieces of meat poisoning my longevity and survival/ oh oh my heart! /bear witness to my grief and wail with me throughout this dark night /oh mothers of my lineage, comfort me as i vomit up this agony/strengthen me as i put new meat on my soul, 2025
